Marcel Sala, IT manager at the Keukenspectrum Group, says: “We still worked decentrally when it came to Simar until a few years ago.” This meant, among other things, that the company had to regularly upgrade its hardware to meet the performance requirements of the increasingly demanding software. Sala started looking for a solution with Wanbound, the permanent IT service provider of the Keukenspectrum group. After an orientation on possible solutions, this was found in a virtual desktop infrastructure solution (VDI) in which all Keukenspectrum workstations are hosted in the Uniserver data center using virtualization.

According to Marcel Sala, the most important challenge in the preliminary phase was the graphic performance of a virtual desktop. “That was a bit of a puzzle in the beginning, because the requirements of a drawing package are simply higher than regular office automation.” Wanbound and Uniserver use graphics processors that offer more computing power for these specific computing-intensive workstations.

According to Sala, Keukenspectrum's new environment has mainly provided more flexibility. “We already had the system up and running before the corona pandemic and that made working from home or visiting a customer a lot easier. We can now work with approximately 150 enterprising professionals in the cloud wherever we want. Furthermore, our entire IT environment has become more manageable. We no longer need to invest in expensive hardware with a lot of computing power at workstations. Employees can do everything necessary to create a design with a regular PC or laptop.

In addition, we can bring on new employees very quickly. You only have to create a profile and a new colleague can start working. Everything is now firmly in place. That is a good basis for the further growth we aim for!”
