AMS-IX strengthens digital sovereignty by migrating workloads to Dutch cloud infrastructure

Amsterdam, March 31, 2026 – AMS-IX (Amsterdam Internet Exchange), one of the world's largest internet exchange points, has moved part of its workloads to Uniserver's Dutch cloud infrastructure. With this step, AMS-IX strengthens its digital autonomy and safeguards the sovereignty of critical IT services within the Netherlands and Europe
The migration fits within AMS-IX's broader strategy to maintain greater control over its digital infrastructure, data, and dependencies. By choosing a Dutch cloud provider with data centers in the Netherlands, data and workloads remain subject to European law and supervision, in line with applicable legislation and regulations and future European frameworks.
“As an organization with a public and vital role in the internet ecosystem, we consider it important to make conscious choices about where and how our digital infrastructure is hosted,” says Peter van Burgel, CEO at AMS-IX. “This migration contributes to the transparency, control, and continuity of our services.”
Uniserver provides the cloud infrastructure and focuses specifically on organizations that value sovereignty, compliance, and predictability. The environment is set up in accordance with European standards and supports AMS-IX in realizing a future-proof IT architecture.
“The collaboration with AMS-IX is exactly what Uniserver stands for,” says Martin Olij, CCO at Uniserver. “We are the driving force behind organizations that want certainty or control over their data. On Dutch soil, under Dutch law. So that you know where your data is and can always rely on it.”
The migration was carried out in phases, with attention to continuity, security, and performance. AMS-IX continues to periodically evaluate its infrastructure in light of technological and societal developments.
