How Uniserver and Broadcom are building the foundations of Europe's digital autonomy
Author: Rick Glas, Director Business Development, Uniserver
Across Europe, the conversation aroundcloud infrastructure is changing. Digital sovereignty has moved rapidly up theagenda as organisations contend with increasing regulation, geopoliticaluncertainty and growing concerns about where their data resides, who has accessto it and how the infrastructure supporting their most critical services isoperated.
With the acquisition, IG&H adds over 60 specialized cloud and AI engineers, with strong positions on AWS and Azure. The combination of CloudNation's technical execution power and IG&H's sector knowledge in financial services, healthcare, and retail enables clients to realize end-to-end digital transformations and addresses a fundamental shift in the market: organizations are no longer seeking just technology, but partners who understand their business and can actually realize change.
Building digital autonomy for more than 25 years
For Uniserver, sovereign cloud is not a response to a recent trend. As a Dutch cloud services provider with more than 25 years of experience, Uniserver has long focused on helping organisations strengthen their digital autonomy through sovereign cloud infrastructure. Uniserver has developed its local industrial base, investing in its infrastructure and building a talent pool with the expertise needed to support its mission.
Uniserver works with customers to understand and generate demand for cloud services, but delivers those services entirely through its own supply chain, its dedicated partner ecosystem. This means managed service providers, systems integrators and software companies remain the route through which customers receive and manage Uniserver-powered services. By combining Uniserver’s cloud expertise with partners’ capabilities and customer relationships, the model enables each party to focus on its strengths while delivering a consistent cloud foundation to customers.
This approach is particularly valuable in regulated sectors such as healthcare, government and critical infrastructure, where security, resilience, compliance and operational control are paramount.
VMware technology has formed the backbone of Uniserver’s cloud platform for nearly two decades. Standardised, highly automated infrastructure enables Uniserver to support enterprise critical workloads at scale while giving partners a consistent foundation on which to build and deliver their own services.
Why sovereign cloud has become a business priority
As regulation increases, AI adoption accelerates and concerns around jurisdiction and geopolitics grow, organisations are reassessing where critical workloads should run. But true sovereignty goes beyond simply having greater control.
At Uniserver, we assess it against three principles: jurisdiction, meaning who owns the provider and which laws apply; control of the encryption keys, meaning who ultimately has the technical ability to access the data and environment; and continuity, or whether services can keep running if geopolitical circumstances change.
The ultimate test is simple: can a non-European entity force the cloud infrastructure to be switched off? If the answer is anything other than a hard no, claims of sovereignty should be questioned. Modern VCF environments can provide a foundation for modernisation without sacrificing these principles.
Supporting organisations where control matters most
For organisations handling sensitive or regulated data, modernising infrastructure while maintaining compliance, security and resilience is a rapidly growing priority. This is particularly important across healthcare, government and other highly regulated sectors, where sovereign cloud is moving higher on the agenda.
Yet the technology itself is not always the hardest part of modernisation. The successful migration of business-critical workloads by service provider Conclusion Enablement challenges the misconception that moving critical workloads must be a lengthy, multi-year technology project. Uniserver’s standardised platform allowed the migration to be completed in manageable phases, without creating customer lock-in. The greater effort in projects like these often lies elsewhere, in procurement, accreditation and establishing the trust required to move critical infrastructure.
Enquiries from customers and partners have increased over the past 12 to 18 months, underlining how important this combination of sovereignty, standardisation and operational resilience has become.
The Uniserver and Broadcom partnership
Uniserver’s relationship with VMware spans almost 20 years and today continues through its position as a VMware Cloud Service Provider (VCSP) Pinnacle tier partner in the Broadcom Advantage Partner Program. As one of only a few Pinnacle tier partners in the Netherlands, Uniserver holds an important position in the VMware Cloud Foundation ecosystem.
Beyond the technology itself, the partnership is built on close commercial collaboration. As Broadcom has evolved its partner model around a smaller, more specialised group of authorised VCSP partners, Pinnacle status has become increasingly significant. It also reflects a mutual investment in greater autonomy: Uniserver continues to build the capabilities to deliver support independently of Broadcom, except where issues concern the VCF platform itself, while also developing and delivering its own innovations.
For MSPs and ISVs that are not authorised VCSP partners themselves, Uniserver can provide an established route to VCF, helping them continue to support their customers and maximise the value of existing VMware investments. Close collaboration with Broadcom also helps Uniserver and its partners navigate programme changes, while licence portability and managed services provide greater continuity and a simpler path to modernisation without the cost, complexity and disruption of unnecessary replatforming.
Preparing for Europe's next phase of adoption
Demand for sovereign cloud is set to continue growing as European organisations place greater emphasis on resilience, compliance and digital autonomy. As hybrid and multi-cloud environments become more complex, trusted managed cloud providers will play an increasingly important role in helping organisations modernise without sacrificing control.
To support this shift, Uniserver is continuing to invest in its partner ecosystem and operational capabilities, helping partners deliver secure, resilient and future-proof cloud services to their customers.
Together, Uniserver and Broadcom are providing a trusted sovereign cloud foundation that combines modern enterprise infrastructure with the control organisations increasingly require. With deep expertise in sovereign cloud and regulated industries, Uniserver is well positioned to help organisations innovate with confidence, strengthen their digital autonomy and remain in control of the infrastructure that powers their business.
